Back to School – Mey Bunthean’s Story

Mey BuntheanLocation: Kroal Krobey village, Tropaing Chong commune, Bankan district, Pursat province

Mey Bunthean, 12 year-old-boy, who studies in grade 3 at Tropaing Chong primary school.

His parents left them to work in Thailand and rarely to come back. They are now living with grandparents. His grandpa is paralyzed because of high blood pressure and his grandma, 68, is hired to plant rice that one day she can get $1.5 per day.

Bunthean has 5 brothers and sisters and all of them need to go out to work to earn money for each schooling. Everyday besides schooling, Bunthean need to find an odd job to do since his grandma can’t support him enough school supplies. Sometime, he goes to fish, look for crab as a daily food for the whole family.

However, Bunthean is now under Back to School project. He was very happy when he can become a part of this project. He smile and said,
“I will no more worry about my schooling anymore since you, CBN, have provided me enough for the whole year. Thank you for helping me!”
