Mey Bunthean, 12 year-old-boy, who studies in grade 3 at Tropaing Chong primary school.

His parents left them to work in Thailand and rarely to come back. They are now living with grandparents. His grandpa is paralyzed because of high blood pressure and his grandma, 68, is hired to plant rice that one day she can get $1.5 per day.

Bunthean has 5 brothers and sisters and all of them need to go out to work to earn money for each schooling. Everyday besides schooling, Bunthean need to find an odd job to do since his grandma can’t support him enough school supplies. Sometime, he goes to fish, look for crab as a daily food for the whole family.

However, Bunthean is now under Back to School project. He was very happy when he can become a part of this project. He smile and said,
“I will no more worry about my schooling anymore since you, CBN, have provided me enough for the whole year. Thank you for helping me!”

Gnagn Chek, 8 year-old-boy who studies in grade 1 at Aknakut primary school. He is living now with his grandparents since his parents and his brother were died by HIV since 2003 and 2005. Gnagn Chek has been containing HIV positive since he was young. Every month his grandmother must send him to Siem Reap province for taking HIV medicine in order to prevent HIV not to develop to AIDS.
Since his grandfather is a cripple, all the burdens are upon his grandmother and it’s really hard for her to survive since she doesn’t have exactly job. Every month, she lacks of money to send her grandchild to take medicine. She feels afraid of her grandchild to die, so she tries her best and sometime she needs to borrow neighbor’s money to send him.
Through wheelchair project, CBN Cambodia has found out his case. Their neighbors look down on them that make them to feel hopelessness. They really need help since the boy need to have good food, good rest and not to worry, so he still can stay a long live.
Through this, CBN has set up her a home store, so that she can have income to support the family. Her business is running well since she can earn $7.5 to $10 per day.
“I am very happy with what you have done to my family especially to my grandchild. Through this store you have provided, I believe that I can earn and support the whole family especially I can have enough money to send my grandchild to take medicine in Siem Reap province. Thank you so much, CBN” said Gnagn Chek’s grandma.
Moreover, since Gnagn Chek is now under BTS program, we, CBN, have provided him a new bike for going to school as well. He said, “I really love this bike. I am happy to have it and I can ride to school. I will take care of it well. Thank you!”

Holy Heng is 11 year-old-boy who studies in grade 3 at Keap primary school.

His parents were died by HIV since 2000 and he also was transmitted HIV from his parents. He has another brother but his brother doesn’t have HIV. Both of them live with his grandparents. His grandpa’s name’s Sun Or, 72. And grandma’s name’s Mon who is 68 years old. They are farmer. Their family also has a rice field to do but because of they are getting old, they gave the rice field to their daughter do and they can get some rice back every year. Anyways, it is still not enough for them. It just helps them for a short period and then they have to find some more by themselves.

Holy Heng needs to go to Siem Reap every month for taking HIV medicine to protect himself not develops to AIDS that is a bit hard for his grandparents since they are quite old and can do nothing beside helping people in funeral which get small amount of money.

Holy Heng loves to study and he’s a good student. He was so happy when he can become a part of Back to School project. He smiled to receive school supplies, uniforms and bag especially a new bike and said, “I love it so much, thank you!”

Bun Ren is 13 year-old-boy, who studies in grade 3 at Trapang Chorng primary school. His father was died by unknown sickness since 2005. Since then, his mother left him to be a worker at another place and she also has a new husband.

Now Bun Ren lives with his grandparents. His grandpa is 77 years old, grandma is 67 years old. His grandpa cannot do anything because he is too old and his grandma is hired to wash clothes, transplant rice seeding for her neighbor.

Actually, Bun Ren has stopped studying for two years. When he was in grade 2 in 2006, his grandmother asked him to stop studying since she couldn’t afford him to school and she wanted him to help her work.

Thanks God, CBN has found his case and put him under Back to School project, so that he can continue his studying in grade 3.

He said he was very happy that he can continue his studying. He hopes that he will get a high education and a better life in the future.
